Selling and transfering land
Under Victoria's Equal Opportunity Act, it is against the law to treat someone unfairly when selling or transferring land.
How can discrimination happen?
It is against the law to refuse to sell or transfer land to someone because of a characteristic protected by law. This includes setting unfair terms or conditions for the sale or transfer. This does not cover selling or offering a leasehold interest in land for accommodation purposes.
Are there any exceptions?
The only exception to this protection is transferring land under a will. It is lawful to discriminate when deciding whom to leave land under your will.
