   Thomas James Woodroofe

“I believe the Charter demonstrates a fundamental commitment to social justice and equality within Victoria into the future, but also a dedication to ensuring community members are able to contribute to the society in which they live.”

Thomas is committed to the passionate involvement of young people in public life. Raised in country Victoria, Thom is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Global) alongside several community appointments, including on the Youth Reference & Policy Advisory Groups of the Victorian Youth Affairs Council, on the Youth Advisory Committee of the Victorian Red Cross and on the Youth Reference Group for the Victorian Mental Health & Wellbeing Summit.

Thomas has previously represented Australia at a Global Youth Leadership Summit, served as the Chairman of the National Cadet Reference Group in the Australian Air Force Cadets, and as the Government Engagement Leader of the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY Campaign. In early 2008, Thom founded and now serves as the executive director for Left Right, Australia’s first independent and non-profit think-tank for young Australians.

“Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled,” says Thom. “I believe the Charter serves as an insurance policy ensuring our community develops in a truly harmonious way into the future – namely through the promotion of participation and equality in the development of state laws - filtering down to the everyday interactions and the appreciation of each other in society.”

Thom was nominated by the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria.
