Exemptions and exceptions - Welfare measures and special needs

Discrimination may be lawful when providing special services, benefits or faciltiies which are designed to:

• meet the special needs of people who have a particular protected characteristic, e.g. age or race;
• prevent or lessen disadvantage suffered by those people in education, accommodation, training or welfare.
