Education and training

The Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commission, VECCI and RCSA and other training organisations, all provide training in equal opportunity legislation and principles. The Commission has reviewed its existing courses relevant to the area to incorporate suggestions from the enquiry.

Industry Self-regulation

The Commission believes that the recruitment industry would benefit from adopting a set of standards relating to equal opportunity compliance. The Commission acknowledges that professional standards alone would not offer a complete solution to business pressures that may lead to discriminatory practices. However, a comprehensive code with industry censure and penalties may provide some encouragement to those already compliant with equal opportunity obligations to feel more confident that the actions of their competitors will be open to scrutiny

Members of the recruitment industry were open to the notion of self-regulation through the development of an equal opportunity code of practice. The Commission urges the industry to take note of the findings of this enquiry and pursue the development of an equal opportunity Code of Practice.
